Why Ascended Heroes Might Be the Most Epic Pokémon TCG Set of 2026

Hey trainers! I’m beyond excited to share what’s coming our way in early 2026 with the Pokémon TCG’s newest expansion: Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes. And trust me, this one’s going to be special.

Picture this: Mega Dragonite ex soaring into battle, leading an absolutely stacked lineup of some of the most iconic Pokémon I’ve ever seen. I’m talking Trainer’s Pokémon, Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, and a whole roster of Mega Evolution Pokémon ex—some making their return, and others making their grand debut. Plus, get ready for some seriously stunning special artwork that showcases these Pokémon unleashing their most powerful attacks. This expansion is basically a love letter to both the Scarlet & Violet era and the dawn of Mega Evolution, bringing together the best of both worlds in one incredible set.

Here’s something that’ll get collectors hyped: Ascended Heroes is introducing an all-new card rarity called Mega attack rare. These cards feature attack names written in Japanese katakana, which honestly looks amazing. And if you’re into those gorgeous illustration cards (who isn’t?), you’re in for a treat—I’m talking 33 Illustration Rares and 22 Special Illustration Rares. That’s a massive collection to chase!

The set starts rolling out on January 30, 2026, with products launching through April. You’ll be able to pick up everything from Elite Trainer Boxes to special collections, mini tins, and more. Each product comes loaded with booster packs and exclusive promo cards you won’t find anywhere else. And here’s a cool bonus: if you play Pokémon TCG Live, you can start battling with these new cards digitally starting January 29, 2026—a day before the physical release!

No matter which product you grab, you’re getting booster packs from Ascended Heroes plus some exclusive goodies. The Elite Trainer Box, for instance, comes with nine booster packs and an illustration rare-style N’s Zekrom promo. The various collections include Trainer’s Pokémon promos, tech stickers featuring fan-favorites like Mega Charizard Y and Mega Gengar, and even lenticular promo cards with dynamic artwork. Later in the year (April 24th to be exact), we’re also getting special boxes featuring Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex—giving those beloved starter evolutions the Mega spotlight they deserve!

Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes is shaping up to be one of those must-have expansions. Whether you’re a competitive player looking to add powerhouse cards to your deck, a collector hunting for those gorgeous illustration rares, or just someone who loves seeing your favorite Pokémon in stunning new artwork, this set has something for you. Mark your calendars, set those reminders, and get ready to ascend to new heights with your favorite Pokémon. I’ll see you at the card shop!

Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes launches January 30, 2026, at the Pokémon Center and wherever Pokémon TCG products are sold.
